Details for the New Brighton Santa Parade

The Parade sets off from Marine Parade, opposite the New Brighton Club, at 10.30am. It takes about 45 minutes from start to finish.
Road closures are set up at 10am. Our band needs to be assembled on Marine Parade by 10am.
Parents can park in the carpark of the NB working men's Club.

Our students are to wear black uniform with Christmas decorations, hats etc. Bring pegs for music.

ORDER OF EVENTS.

9am-2pm Market in the mall
9am Helpers at Chisnallwood to set up the truck
9.30am Jazz Band members arrive at school if you need a ride to New Brighton
9.40am trucks and vans depart Chisnallwood
10am The whole band to be set up on the truck on Marine Parade. You can park next to the New Brighton Working Men's Club, 202 Marine Parade.
10.10am Santa arrives on the beach
10.30am Parade starts.
11.15am parade ends back on Marine Parade
11.30 onwards Willie McArthur hosts a Community Concert in the mall.
11.30-1pm Santa shares fruit form his garden in the New Brighton Project Centre.

Upcoming Music Events

Thursday 25th November 7pm The Chisnallwood Jazz band has a guest performance at Westburn School, 257 Waimairi Road at 7pm

ITINERANT NIGHT 2 - Dec 2nd. 6.30-8.30pm
This concert is for all students learning guitar, bass, drums, vocals and Lynne's keyboard students. It will start with a spectacular combined drum item outside (if fine) and will finish with a short rock band showcase and prizegiving!After the initial drum item, students will split up into simultaneous itinerant concerts in venues such as the music room, media room and library before concluding with the prizegiving and short showcase in the hall.
These concerts are an important opportunity for all the students to perform to a supportive audience.

Saturday 4th December 10.30am. New Brighton Santa Parade. The Jazz Band will perform Christmas Music on a float in the New Brighton Santa Parade.

Sun 5th Dec Rock afternoon 4.30pm combined with other Intermediate and primary schools’ rock bands at Zebedees, 479 Blenheim Rd
We are once again holding a Primary Schools' end of year event to showcase our young rock bands. There will be prizes for outstanding musicians/solos etc.
When: Sunday Dec 5th 4.30pm - 6.30pm
Where: Zebedees, (a non-alchoholic youth night spot) on 479 Blenheim Road, ChCh (next to the Wild West Minigolf)
Who: Rock bands up to year 8 (Primary and Intermediate schools only)
What: Bands can play up to 3 pieces or 10 minutes, covers or originals.
Cost: Gold coin or $5 family. Drinks available for purchase.

Sunday 12th December Repercussion Concert. 6.30pm. Chisnallwood Percussion Ensemble will be taking part in this annual event for percussionists. It will be held at Cashmere High School and features performances given by professional percussionists as well as performances from various Christchurch schools – both primary and secondary. Rehearsal 5pm. Performance 6.30pm.

Itinerant Music Nights

ITINERANT MUSIC NIGHT 1 - Nov 24th 6.30pm. This is the concert for all students learning flute, sax, clarinet, trumpet, french horn, violin, cello, piano and keyboard at Chisnallwood. It will conclude with a short orchestra performance and prizegiving!

Kids For Kids Choir Concert

World Vision Kids For Kids Concert with Suzanne Prentice. November 22nd. 7.30pm at the James Hay Theatre, Town Hall, Kilmore St.

Fifty Chisnallwood students will take part in this combined schools' Christmas choir concert. Please note there will be a dress rehearsal on Monday morning 22nd November at the Town Hall! The bus will leave Chisnallwood at 8.40am and be back at school by 1pm. Please bring a snack and drink for morning tea at the rehearsal.At night students are to wear bright clothing and where possible tinsel, santa hats or other Christmas themed accessories. Please bear in mind that it gets hot on stage so clothing needs to be lightweight. No sweatshirts or jackets.Parents please read the "info for parents"Soloist auditions:
  • The Kids for Kids music director will audition two soloists per school for the following songs:12 Days of Christmas (two parts), Silent Night (one part), Edelweiss (one part) and When a Child is Born (one part).
  • Auditions will take place during the morning tea break of the rehearsal.
What time to be there at night:
  • Please ensure that all students are backstage by 6:45pm.
  • We will start getting the students on stage by 7:10pm.
  • The concert will start by 7:30pm.
  • The concert will conclude by 9:15pm.

Upcoming performances

Thursday 18th November 1pm
The Jazz Band and chamber groups will present a programme for senior citizens in the Shirley area at Emmett St Christian Centre, 106 Emmett St (opposite Acheson Ave). Parents and any seniors are welcome. Afternoon tea provided.

Friday 19th November
NZEI Teachers’ graduation function. The Jazz Band will be providing background music for the social function which takes place after the graduation ceremony. 6pm -6.40pm in the Green Room (Aurora Centre) at Burnside High School. (Band to arrive at 5.15pm)

Sat 20th November afternoon 2pm
Chamber group performance for the Drury Theatre Organ Charitable Trust, "Knightsbank" 164 Whincops Rd, Halswell Entry $15 donation adult, children free and a raffle will be run. BYO folding chair, cups and finger food. Hot water, tea and coffee will be provided. The concert features their resident organist Richard Hore QSM, the Chisnallwood Chamber group and the Richmond Bell Ringers. The proceeds from this show will be divided between CanTeen and the City Mission.
