NZSO Concert opportunity

NZSO and Colin Currie Concert
The Bold Worlds concert in the CBS Canterbury Arena on Wednesday 10 July at 7.00pm.  It will be an exciting concert with world-renowned percussionist Colin Currie back in New Zealand for the Southern Hemisphere premiere of a new Concerto for Solo Percussion and Orchestra, Sieidi, by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho.
In Aho’s concerto, Currie explores the different timbres of the percussionist’s armoury - darabuka, tom-toms and snare, marimba, wood and temple blocks, vibraphone and tamtam - in a work that is lyrical and brilliantly rhythmic.
The NZSO have a Student/Accompanying Adult Discount - $10/$20 – which can be booked through NZSO Client Service 0800 479 674. Or let Mrs Bell know by filling out the form on this page: http://chisnallwoodmusic.wikispaces.com/Orchestra
You can find lots of information, videos and links about the concert and Colin Currie here: http://www.nzso.co.nz/concerts/concert/bold-worlds/

June Music news

On May 31st Chisnallwood combined with Avondale School to sing "Paradise" as a finale to NZ Music Month 2013. The awesome singing nearly lifted the roof off the hall and it was a great experience. Congratulations to Earth for winning the Sing-Off. Here's a link to the initial edit of the video made on the day: http://youtu.be/zLLt6FhWx8I

June 8th Students are invited to attend the Christchurch Symphony rehearsal of "Hollywood" at Wigram Airforce Museum at 10.30am. Please see the CSO Ambassador page of chisnallwoodmusic.org.nz for details and to indicate your interest.

June 8th The Chisnallwood Jazz bands will be playing for the Modern Learning Envirnments Expo from 1.30-2pm. The expo is  free event and runs from 10am-4pm at the Wigram Airforce Museum which is open to everyone.

June 16th ROCKQUEST (Day 2) Our five Chisnallwood rockbands will be performing at the Jack Mann Auditorium, Solway Ave on day 2 of the Rockquest heats. The event runs from approximately 12 - 3pm and we'll post a schedule next week with updated performance times. It costs $10 to get in for non-band members so start saving your coins now. The bands would love to have lots of supporters!

June 24th Our Ukulele group will perform at 2pm for residents at the retirement home "Fitzgerald Living".

Good luck to everyone who are sitting auditions for the special groups for the Schools' Music Festival and sitting practical and theory music exams.

Itinerant music lessons
We are really hearing some fantastic progress and are grateful to the teachers and parents for their support. Keep up the practice and don't forget you need to let your music teacher know in advance if anything is going to prevent you from attending your lesson. By now music teachers shouldn't have to call students to their lessons. When students remember to get to their lesson on time, they get the best value from their lesson time!

We are looking forward to having the visiting NZ percussion group STRIKE perform here at Chisnallwood during the day on Monday 10th June.
