This week in music at Chisnallwood

Firstly well done to the performance groups who played for visiting year 6 students on Wed and Thursday. Visiting students got to hear our orchestra, Irish band, brass group and jazz band. They found out about the other groups and music possibilities as well as being introduced to some new instruments.

The Jazz Bands also played as the 560 or so people arrived for the big Community Consultation Meeting on Wed night regarding the future of the school.

Meanwhile the choir has started learning it's lovely pieces to perform at the Christmas concert with CSO on Dec 15. Choir members should check details on the choir page of the wiki.

Tomorrow our Marimba group will play at the CHCH Marimba festival to be held at the St Andrew's College Gymnasium, Papanui Rd. They will perform at the 3pm performance. Look out for their hot pink marimba Tshirts :)

On Tuesday the Orchestra and Choir will perform one piece at the conclusion of the visit from Hekia Parata. This will take place between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Parents/caregivers/supporters are encouraged to attend this consultation meeting to be held in the hall.

Tuesday also will see our jazz combo play for the ASB scholarship awards ceremony during the day.

Wednesday is a recording day for the school CD.

On Thursday the Press will come and video the jazz band at rehearsal as part of snapshots of schools affected by the government proposals.

Meanwhile itinerant students are getting ready for the upcoming itinerant nights. Check out http://chisnallwoodmusic.wikispaces.com/itinerant+night. to see which night you are on if you are learning an instrument or voice or hiphop at school. These nights are always enjoyable and a fabulous opportunity for students to play and for families to meet the itinerant teachers.

September 14th and 15th

This week we are looking forward to members of the NZSO visiting Chisnallwood on Sept 14th.
They will give a performance to our whole school in the morning then another performance to 600 visiting students from ChCh schools. Preparation resources have been available on both the NZSO website and the orchestra page of the wiki. Our orchestra has had a go at playing one of the pieces! We look forward also to John Ritchie visiting the first performance and hearing his son Anthony Ritchie's composition, "Purakaunui". As well as Anthony's piece, they will play Hungarian Dance No.5 by Brahms, Can-Can by Offenbach, An American in Paris by Gershwin, Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, Fred No Frevo by Ney Rosauro.

Then on Saturday we wish four of our Chisnallwood bands good luck as they play at BandQuest at Kaiapoi High. This will involve a big sound check for them in the afternoon, then everyone is welcome to come and support them as they play at night 7-9pm. The entry price is $10 ticket. This event is only for bands up to year 8. Our bands taking part are: 50-50, True Culture, Infinity and Unknown.

Special offer of CSO tickets

The CSO have a great opportunity for Chisnallwood students through our CSO ambassadors.

Students are invited to attend upcoming selected Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Concerts for FREE!  Accompanying adults will need to be prepared to pay for their ticket. This term, students are invited to attend " La Mer" on Saturday June 23rd at 7.30pm at the Air force Museum in Wigram. (The night before the all-day rehearsal for production).

This will be an amazing theatrical concert with amplified bowls of water to replace traditional percussion. La Mer is a world filled with surprises and unexpected pleasures as Debussy explores the movements of the waves and the feel of the wind.

If you are interested in attending this concert, please fill in the form here or see our CSO ambassadors - Mahlia in room 7, or Claudia in room 1.
We need confirmation by 1st June. Get in quick, as there are limited seats available.

Once you order tickets you will be given a contact to notify in the case of being unable to attend (so any unused tickets can be re-distributed for this popular concert).
Tickets may be collected on the night at the venue.
