NZ Music month wrap up...

HOOK, LINE and SING-ALONG on MAY 31
This Friday May 31st, on top of a normal music day of rockband, marimba, Irish band and theory, we are celebrating the end of NZ music month with two stunning events.

11am the choir will pop over to Aranui Libray and perform 4 songs. One of them will be the NZ Music month Song "Paradise" written for the 2013 Hook, Line and Sing-along celebrations.

12noon our whole school will be joined by Avondale Primary for a huge rendition of "Paradise"... imagine 1000 voices... it's going to be magnificent! Following that, the school houses and Avondale will have a sing-off to see who can win the most house points and NZ Music month spot prizes for the most fabulous performance of "Paradise".  All this will be filmed and edited that afternoon into a special collage of Chisnallwood and other schools' performances from around Canterbury and NZ performing the same song.
You can check the song out at the link below - there's still time to learn it and join in!

Welcome to May - NZ Music Month

There's lots happening in May at school for NZ Music Month!

First let's check out the Aranui Library NZ Music Month programme...

Our Uke Band is playing at 2pm this Wednesday May 8th!

Then on Sat May 25th 2.30pm-3.45pm the 5 rockbands, 2 jazz bands and the Irish band will give us an afternoon of entertainment. It will be the first gig for the groups.

We are planning to also have the choir sing at the library so watch out for the adverts of time and date for this!

Entries close on May 8th for ROCKQUEST and it looks like we will have 5 rockbands entering from Chisnallwood! They all did well to finish writing their original songs in the holidays! Rockquest is on June 15/16.

May 31st 12 o'clock is Hook, Line and Sing-along. The school will sing this years' winning song together with the challenge of earning house points an a sing-off. The music can be found here http://hooklineandsingalong.com/downloads/  so you can get practicing!

Christchurch Symphony Orchestra - The next special offer ambassador concert and rehearsal is June 8th Hollywood Concert. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to watch a professional orchestra and singers at work in the morning and to attend the concert for free at night. You will need to sign up really fast to go to thishttp://chisnallwoodmusic.wikispaces.com/CSO+Ambassador
The jazz band has a gig that day too, but is in the afternoon so doesn't clash :)

Soundtech training went well on May 2nd and 3rd. 27 students attending the full and intensive day training.

On May 10th and 11th, we will be welcoming teachers from around ChCh who will use the Performing Arts Block and Whare for music sessions hosted by Music Education Canterbury. www.menza.co.nz

We farewelled Katherine Jones last term who has been working with us for five years and folk guitar legend Phil Garland who had taught guitar here for a good 15 years. This term we are happy that Beth Goodwin joins the music team at Chisnallwood to take over the role of music assistant.
