November Music



BANDQUEST
When: Wed, Nov 13th 7pm-9.30pm (Doors open at 6pm)
Where: Chisnallwood Hall
Cost: $10 (free for band members). Door sales.
What: Rock band competition for bands up to year 8 from around Canterbury. Bands get a sound check and feedback from judges earlier in the day then get to do the full on performance/competition at night to an audience of incredible supporters! (you!)
Chisnallwood Bands taking part are: Feedback, 3-50, Fallen Sky and Gold Rush Crew. Rewind will be playing at their 2pm soundcheck but not in the evening.

There is a fabulous student offer of $10 school tickets for this concert. (for those not at Bandquest!)

EXAM RESULTS
Congratulations to students of Marnie Barrell - Breana Riordan (1), Lia Fairburn (2) and Olivia Crighton (2) who passed their grade exams on piano with merit! Well done!

ITINERANT MUSIC NIGHTS COMING UP!
All students learning itinerant music at Chisnallwood have the chance to perform at one of the Itinerant nights in November. This is a fantastic opportunity to share what students have been learning, and great opportunity to meet the itinerant teacher too!
There's a confirmation form on the wiki which will help us get the programme notes right if you fill it in!
The itinerant nights will be on the following days: Wed Nov 20th 6.30pm-8.30pm - Itinerant night 1

  • drums (Henare)- outside on the technology court if fine -otherwise in the hall
  • keyboard (Lynne's students) in the library or hall
  • bass and guitar (Clayton's students) in the media room
  • Cello and Piano students (Mike Crowther) in the music room
  • followed by certificates

Thurs Nov 21st 6.30-8.30pm - Itinerant night 2

  • piano (Marnie's students) in the music room
  • sax and clarinet (Elliot) in the library
  • trumpet and trombone (Greg) in the library
  • guitar (Half of Leroy's students) in the media room
  • followed by Orchestra, Marimba, Irish and Certificates in the hall

Mon Nov 25th 6.30-8pm - Itinerant night 3

  • Violin (Julie Pettitt) in the library, flute (Janet SImon) in the library
  • Vocal (Amanda Atlas) in the music room
  • Guitar (Half of Leroy's students) 
  • Hiphop dance (Leearna) in the hall 
  • followed by certificates in the hall


Talent Quest finals will be Friday 22nd Nov. Students to see Miss Knight (room 1) for entry forms and Mrs Bell for help with backing tracks and editing them to 2 minutes.

KIDS IN TOWN (2) 
When: November 28th 12.30-1pm
Where: Re:START Mall
Featuring: Chisnallwood Irish Band, Choir and Ukes

VOCAL MASTERCLASS with Ravil Atlas 
Friday Nov 29th 11am-12 This is during choir time, so the choir can watch and take part!

KIWILELE TRIP TO AUCKLAND
The Chissy Uke group will take a day trip to Auckland to play with 3000 other uke players for the afternoon!
Sat Nov 30th in the Trusts Arena.


ChCH Schools' Music FESTIVAL
Congratulations to our 36 students who sung in our wonderful school choir at the ChCh Schools' Music Festival who performed at the CBS Arena last week. It was a stunning night of very high quality and fun music from 1,000s of young Canterbury students. The Festival runs for three nights and we have a number of students representing Chisnallwood on each night in representative groups. These students are:
Senior Choir: Olivia Costello, Rory Humm, William Murton (who also gave a spoken introduction last night) and Breana Riodan.
Orchestra: Claudia Crosland (violin), Rion Ormandy (percussion) and Liam Johnson (double bass).
Concert band: Max Bobby (trumpet)
Ukulele group: Travis Griffin, Claudia Crosland, Liam Johnson, James Kleiss, Norbert Muller and Aiyana Manson-King.

ChCh BIG BAND FESTIVAL
Well done to our jazz bands who played over Labour Weekend at this festival at the Pallet Pavillion, Re:START Mall and Court Theatre.
This week they will be playing for an International education conference and the NZEI Teacher Graduation.
